On May 6, 2024, founder Marcel Pasternak presented his innovative flex building blocks cbionic on the popular TV show "Die Höhle der Löwen" (DHDL). In the 15th season and 5th episode, the founder impressed the investors with his unique toy idea, which is designed to promote children's creativity and learning.   • Magnetic building blocks: These enable flexible constructions, but do not offer the dynamic movements that cbionic strives for.
  • Flexo®: Flexo bricks use rubber bands to provide more flexibility, but do not achieve the organic movement and versatility of cbionic bricks.

None of these products combine the imitation of natural movements with the simplicity and intuitiveness that cbionic offers.

What makes cbionic special?

cbionic stands out from other toys thanks to its unique properties. The flexible building blocks are designed to enable dynamic movements similar to those found in nature. Children can use them to imitate the movements of snakes, plant stems or tentacles, for example.

The main claim of cbionic's patent is very short and essentially claims a toy building block designed as flexible structure, the chain link-like single members of which each have a recess which is profiled transversely to the axis of the recess and which has a lower restoring force in response to a shear or bending stress than to a tensile stress (cf. Fig. 9 of the cbionic patent). This gives the components their unique flexibility.

The patent clearly stands out from the state of the art due to its technical sophistication.

While existing solutions in the prior art such as rigid building blocks (see Fig. 2A of D1: US6672931B1), plastically deformable rigid building blocks (see Fig. 2A of D2: US2003175669A1) or toy building blocks with limited flexibility due to the natural shape of the corresponding links (see Fig. 19 of D3: US5312283A) often have limitations, cbionic creates a new dimension of play through the specific profiling of the cbionic (see Fig. 9 of the cbionic patent). The flexible building blocks combine stability with dynamic movement and open up new creative possibilities for children.
